Why do I need an updated vaccine?

Viruses are constantly changing to adapt and survive in new environments—and as they spread, they become harder to contain. Updated vaccinations help us keep up with these mutations. Updated vaccines are necessary to offer protection against new variants, ensuring that you remain protected against the circulating COVID-19 strains. By staying up to date on your vaccinations, you can protect yourself and those around you.


Who should get a COVID-19 vaccination?

Your doctor can advise if you are eligible to get an updated COVID-19 vaccine, in accordance with the latest Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines. These guidelines help identify specific groups who should prioritise staying up to date with their COVID-19 vaccination, as outlined below.

Who should receive a COVID-19 vaccine?An additional dose of updated vaccine for 2024
Recommended for:
  • Individuals aged 60 years and above
  • Medically vulnerable individuals aged 6 months and above
  • Residents of aged care facilities

Encouraged for:
  • Everyone aged 6 months and above
  • Healthcare workers
  • Individuals living or working with medically vulnerable people

Other individuals aged 6 months and above have the option to receive the annual vaccine, should they choose.
Recommended by MOH to be administered around 1 year (and no earlier than 5 months) after the last dose received.

COVID-19 vaccines can now be given with other vaccines such as influenza vaccine.
